Heritage Trail Elementary School Parent Compact
School Academic Goals: Currently, Troy Heritage Trail has a composite of 32% Meets/Exceeds. Therefore, by consistently implementing curricular standards and proficiency targets as measured and monitored by formative and interim assessments, at least 33% of Troy Heritage Trail students will meet/exceed in both reading and math on the Illinois state assessment by the end of the 2025-2026 school year.
Content specific goals reflecting building strength and needs:
Reading- 37%
Math- 30%
School SEL Goal: All kindergarten through fourth grade teachers at Troy Heritage Trail will implement our core SEL curriculum (Second Step) with fidelity. We monitor student social emotional needs by implementing the DESSA assessment beginning this school year.
School Responsibilities:
- Create a welcoming and positive learning environment for students and parents.
- Frequently assess students and provide ongoing feedback to parents, in formats easy to understand and at reasonable intervals, on how the student is progressing academically.
- Involve parents in the planning, review, and improvement of the school’s parental involvement policy and schoolwide improvement plan.
- Ensure that all certified and classified Title I staff are highly qualified per state guidelines and are engaged in ongoing evaluation, professional development and reflection.
- Provide effective social emotional learning and practices to create a safe and positive learning environment.
- Provide high quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables students to meet the Common Core State Standards.
- Provide parents reasonable access to staff by phone, email, or individual conferences. Respond to parents within 1 business day.
- Provide opportunities for parents to participate in decisions about the education of their child.
- Provide access to volunteer opportunities that take into consideration parent/guardian availability.
Parent & Family Responsibilities:
- Make sure my child is present and on time except in cases of illness or family emergency. I will contact the school if my child is absent.
- Check my email and my child’s backpack for school communication and learning materials, read it, and respond in a timely manner if necessary.
- Provide a quiet place and time for my child to read, study, complete homework, and/or decompress after school each day.
- Ensure student devices are charged and all school provided materials are well-cared for and returned in a timely manner.
- Monitor the amount of screen time and ensure my child gets enough sleep each night.
- Attend parent-teacher conferences, keep contact information up to date, and engage in two way communication regarding my child’s progress.
- Model and reinforce respectful, responsible, safe, and kind behavior at home and at school. Support the school in our work to provide a safe environment for all students, staff and family members.
- Abide by all school and district rules as outlined in the parent-student handbook and school documents.
- Follow all arrival and dismissal procedures, remaining respectful towards other families and staff members.
- Participate in school events and volunteer opportunities.
Student Responsibilities:
- Come to school each day ready to learn, participate, and do my best! Get a good night’s sleep and eat a healthy breakfast so I am ready for school. Bring all my supplies, including my charged device, each day.
- Use my quiet home space for reading, studying, and practicing work my teacher has assigned.
- Speak and act in a respectful, responsible, safe and kind way towards myself and others at all times. I can do this by following adult directions; keeping my body safe, calm and to myself; using kind words and a kind voice when I speak to others.
- Do my best work and ask for help when I need it during the school day.
- Be excited about learning! Celebrate my own success and the success of others.
- Help make our school a happy, fun and safe place to be!
